City of Thompson

Throughout 2020 and much of 2021, the City of Thompson worked with over 30 different community partners to develop a Community Wellness and Safety Strategy to promote community inclusion, compassionate solutions to social challenges. The plan is expected to be presented to the public in 2021.

Many initiatives proposed by the plan are already underway, including community beautification, a dedicated sobering centre, and resuming the annual Homelessness Point-in-Time count. It also builds on programs already implemented by partners, like the Thompson Community Response Team.

Rocky Cree street signs will begin to go up this summer, complementing the territorial acknowledgments ofNisichawayasihk Cree Nation on the City’s north and south entrance signs installed last fall.

Thompson continues to explore exciting land developments with local First Nations governance groups that promote Thompson’s role as a regional service hub for northern Manitoba.
