Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre continues to be committed to working with the community and all levels of government to secure the funding necessary for the development and provision of programs, services, activities and events to urban Indigenous people in the city of Thompson.

The current Pandemic has made for an extremely difficult year for everyone. Although we have had to modify the delivery of our programs and services we have remained open to ensure the increased needs of the urban Indigenous population continue to be met.

The Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre provided a number of food hampers and hot meals to our Elders, families and clients. Our New Beginnings program staff are doing virtual cooking lessons with their families. The lessons are put up on our Facebook Page so that everyone can follow along.

With the completion of our commercial kitchen in our main site facility on 4 Nelson Road, we were able to provide MKO with meals for Vaxport and their Clients in self-isolation. We were also successful in securing a contract with the Canadian Armed Forces for the provision of lunches for their military personnel who were in Thompson for Operation Vector.

With the completion of our commercial kitchen we are now in the process of designing our restaurant which will open prior to the Fall of 2021.

We have been successful in securing funding to operate and oversee an Urban Indigenous Vaccination Clinic. The Clinic operates in true Friendship Centre fashion with the provision of smudging and prayer as well as the provision of a small lunch when leaving the Clinic.

The renovation to the commercial kitchen at our Hostel Facility has been complete as well as the installation of security doors and cameras to ensure the safety of our medical clients and transitional housing tenants.

The Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre also remains committed to working collaboratively with the community on the issue of community wellness and public safety.
